What is your impression of "drinking coffee" with Ken Watanabe with Ken Watanabe at the moment you fulfill your "dream" by British YouTuber Chris Broad?

At the end of last year, Chris Broad published a series of "Japanese not listed in the guidebook" and published "British living in Tohoku who became a world -famous YouTuber".

At the end of the postscript, he wrote, "I still have a lot of things I want to do."

-How do you feel when the book is published?Did you have a response?

Chris Broad (Chris): The other day, I went to a bookstore in Daikanyama with the TOKYO CREATIVE staff. There was "British living in Tohoku who became a global YouTuber", and I was able to realize again that I published a book.

When I wrote the book on SNS, many comments were commented by viewers, "I want you to write in English."Considering that 90 % of viewers are English -speaking people, it is natural.I was sorry that I wanted to read it, but I couldn't read it because of the language barrier.

-What did Natsuki and Ryotaro, a friend of Japanese who appeared in the book, said?

Chris: Natsuki said that he was able to fill the gap because he did not know why I came to Japan until I read this book. And "I was nostalgic."

It seems that reading a book reminded me of what we had done and how great we had together.

I think this is the attraction of writing a book.We are too busy to think about the future and are losing the opportunity to look back on the past. The writing was a trigger to remember the past and bite.

-Did you say something when you were an English teacher in Yamagata?

Chris: The students at the time commented on Instagram and Facebook.I didn't think I would publish a book like this, and I was surprised and happy.

-Did you change what you wrote?

英国人YouTuberクリス・ブロードが語る“夢”を叶えた瞬間の景色 渡辺謙と「コーヒーを飲んだ」感想は?

Chris: I have always set the next goal.By writing a book, I was able to recall what I have done so far. When I moved to Japan, I was deeply moved because I didn't even think that my life would be such a thrilling thing.

-What did you think when the story of putting out a book came?

Chris: To publish a book in Japan was one of the bucket lists. However, I was afraid when the offer came. There is the word "impostor syndrome", which refers to a state where you do not recognize your abilities or achievements, but when you first get a book, I think that you are not such a qualification.I did it.I wondered if my career was so interesting to talk to people. But it was good to write as a result.

-In the book, it was said that we will aim for the world of films in the future, but is the project moving?

Chris: Yes.I'm trying to shape some ideas. In order to give me pressure, I purchased a camera for cinema with the momentum of jumping from Shimizu's stage on Christmas.

In fact, I had a meeting a few weeks ago with a Japanese British film director. He is inspired and hopes to work together. My biggest goal in 2022 is to create short films (besides getting sick).

Nevertheless, it is a bit scary to spend time to enter the world of film by postpone YouTube afterwards. But we have to move forward to realize many years of dreams.Because it's my dream.

-By the way, you rented a studio.

Chris: That's right.I rented a studio and made a big set inside.I asked a professional design company called JUR (Jiyuro), who was in charge of Netflix's "Alice in the Country of the Country".

I Built a Japanese RAMEN Shop in My Apartment | STUDIO Tour

The studio is divided into two sections, a ramen shop and a shopping street. The ramen shop with neon was inspired by Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982), and the shopping street was imagined a good old Showa shopping street in the 1960s.We are proud of the candy shops and electric shops that displayed actual candy.

I like the 1980s.I like "Blade Runner" as well as "AKIRA" (1988).So, when the JUR staff visited the studio in August, I ordered, "I want you to be a ramen shop" or "I want you to make a different age street."The staff was willing to take my request and immediately gathered the people needed for the set and started working.

The actual studio assembly began in October 2021.It was assembled in a huge warehouse in Tokyo and was transported in November of the following month.I didn't see how I carried it because I was brought in when I was away from Sendai. How did you carry it in a big set?I can't imagine.

-Please tell us that you were glad to make a large set.

Chris: The great thing about the set is that no matter where the camera is captured, it will be a picture. You can shoot while moving the camera. This is a great advantage.I used to shoot at home before, so I needed to clear the room every time I shot. The joy of being released from such annoyance is great.

ー ー On the “ABROAD IN JAPAN” channel, when you said you borrowed a studio, who could imagine making such a set?

Chris: The studio has office furniture such as work desks and whiteboards. But I wanted something else to increase the brand value of "ABROAD IN JAPAN".Such a large investment may be once in a lifetime.Sendai will definitely stay in the next few years.
