How does Canon's handheld camera feel in the TV world?

Give the impression that a freelance director is using it by turning his own camera. The industry of TV interview is definitely Sony, and the rental scene is almost all Sony, Canon gives the impression of a camera privately owned by the director. I'm afraid I'm very attached to it as my own thing. For example, those who also work in film directors and on television mostly use Canon cameras. In fact, because the last scene is very important, I was commissioned to shoot as a photographer, most of which were shot by the director himself for a long time, and what the director now owns is the EOS C300. In addition, documentary director Kazuhiro Shida is also an EOS C100. TV directors and others use smaller lenses and all-in-one handheld televisions.

Did you use Canon's handheld computer from the standpoint of a photographer?

He has joined technology companies and production companies, and used XH A1 in the era of HDV. When I went for an overseas interview at that time, I felt that it was Sony's Z1J, if not, it was Canon's G1 or A1. This is a good camera. The 20x zoom lens is also very dry. When we were students of our generation, because it was a 16 mm camera for interviews, we had a small camera, which made people feel this tradition.

In TV programs, the use of lens-switched cameras is also on the rise. where is the use of this all-in-one handheld lens?

As a requirement from the program, there are fewer things that entrust photographers with the style of Lubo interviews. Even if there are, there are many modes for directors to bring their own cameras. Photographers are specially used, even documentaries, to make beautiful pictures. Even at the scene of the documentary, it will be a lens change camera. Use still lenses and small cinema lenses to aim at photogenic paintings.

Of course, I also do this kind of shooting. I have cameras and lenses that I can shoot, but I sometimes take out orders that I want to hold by hand. In other words, I don't rely on shooting here, but I want to cooperate with the other party to shoot according to circumstances. I want to adopt a style that is eaten and discovered by things that don't know how to move. The beauty of the image will more or less cause sacrifice, but as myself, I would rather choose the power of the image than this. Of course, that depends on the theme. I discussed it with the director.

So the handheld sensor with three links is a type 1 sensor. what does it feel like for Mr. Kui?

I think the type 1 sensor feels just right to be close to a 16 mm cinema camera. Although there is no focus blur like lens exchange, there is also a certain degree of blur. It feels like a good fit. In fact, 2 / 3 or so is easier to do, but it can also be type 1. Compared with this, the recent high-magnification zoom lens F dropped a lot. No manufacturer can solve it. I hope the entire zoom area can pass the F value, but I hope to develop a lens that doesn't fall off as much as possible.

Try it this time. What's the sense of using it as a camera?

XF605 feels short and balanced in front and back. Although it is definitely not frivolous, I think it is probably taking into account the position of the handle, including the touch of the handle, including the state and retention of the hand. Because I am making a documentary, I pay special attention to the user-friendly interface. When XF605 holds it, I like the texture, shape and belt feeling of the pear skin. I think it will be skid-proof here.

Because there are a lot of hand-held photography, I am very concerned about the adjustment of hand jitter correction. Unlike a shoulder camera, hand jitter correction must be performed in the case of a hand-held camera. However, it is not enough to stop, but to shake the camera often, so it is very important whether the image is natural or not.

Taking pictures of distant objects with your hands is effective, but shaking the camera in this state can be incongruous, so you can switch with the assign button. According to the effect, there are two kinds of dynamic mode and standard, in addition to the hand jitter correction ON/OFF, dynamic and standard switching is also assigned to the allocation button.

AF tried facial recognition, pupil recognition. Although I can really recognize and cooperate, as my own shooting method, shooting the front is not the process of that person turning or backward, but mostly lying next to that person at first. When he was doing some work, or was lost in thought, he immediately went to the side. Light also often becomes a shadow without highlights, so you can't catch AF. Hit the nail on the head with the director who is listening to the story. Although there was no dissatisfaction with being with him, he ended up using more midfield. LCD and EVF are very easy to read and have a good impression. The lights will be on at the same time. Sometimes you change the height of the camera subtly by changing the angle of the EVF while pressing your eyes on the EVF, but depending on the camera, the hinge becomes hard and can't move, but the camera is moderately soft and easy to do.

While the body is lightweight, the thread part is strengthened by changing the parts, and it can also be replaced.

The handle is a non-slippery material and has a very good touch.

The allocation button 4 is a waveform display by default, but it is not used first in documentaries, so the ON/OFF,6 for hand jitter correction is flicker reduction, 8 is dynamic and standard switching for hand jitter correction, and 9 is the display. 11 is the part under the camera, but it is not good if you press the REC button incorrectly, so it is not set.

Outdoors, wear the hood on the LCD. Take off the hood and use the rain cover when it rains.

I noticed that the camera was very careful with the details. I thought the sense of operation on hand was a tradition of camera manufacturers. Is there a great accumulation of ergonomics? How convenient it is. For example, the XLR adapter unlocks the lever part, which is an easy place to press. If it's up there, it's a narrow place, so you can't get your fingers in. In the documentary scene, will immediately take off the microphone to shoot the real scene, will be very adaptable to change the composition, which is very happy at the scene. The position of the thumb is also set on the handle as if nothing had happened.

The detailed shapes such as the storage of the thumb on the handle are admirable.

The terminal rod of the XLR is in an easy-to-press position.

How about the battery?

This time I took away the high-capacity type (BP-A60), and the battery was really good to hold. It takes more than four hours to shoot a day, and one battery is enough. It's great to use a type 1 CMOS sensor camera for a long time.

-- Button configuration is a camera that you don't normally use. Are you used to it?

The cursor for menu operation is not only on the handle, but also can be manipulated with the right thumb of the handle, so you can set it while watching the EVF, and the button configuration as a whole is easy to understand. Shutter selection, focus, aperture switching and so on. It's just that the ND filter is +,-I prefer it to the switch. The zoom operation also switches more rings and rods than the camera on the right here (on the left side of the fuselage), so it was confusing at first. Because the zoom ring is not mechanical, the response will be delayed if you rotate the ring, but the zoom lever of the seesaw feels better.

How about double slots?

This is a must and is often used. There are many cases of recording the same thing at the same time, for example, in the case of overseas interviews and overnight interviews, most of the time I only want the interview part to be sent to me first. Therefore, as long as one of the parties is lightly recorded as an agent, it can be sent directly. This is already a necessary function. Although it also has the function of recording only sound, it is better to be small and have pictures, and the linkage of TC is also very happy.

The ultra-thin dielectric slot part is easy to open and tighten. If it is on, you cannot REC.

-- do you use the channel 4 recording function of sound?

This time the sound was recorded with a gun microphone and RODE's digital wireless, and it was a great help to be able to record Channel 4. As a photographer, I have a lot of sense of security. Sure enough, there is a danger of noise if the cable is connected. In the case of digital wireless, sometimes if there is something blocked, the sound will be interrupted. If it's the built-in microphone of the camera, there must be some kind of sound, so it's safe to stay there. When editing, as long as do not forget 3ch, 4ch, please cut the application on it.

PC voice is recorded by gun microphone and digital wireless.

Is it 4K or HD this time? What's your impression of the quality of the picture?

This time it's high definition. What the director has been filming is HD, of course. In REC.709, the dynamic range is Wide DR. You can choose Canon Log, but it may not be common to use this camera in documentaries. I think the picture will be very important. This time the director has been shooting on the EOS C300 and has a similar setting to that C300. I think there is no sense of disharmony when sitting on the same timeline, and I feel that the more frank features are very useful. Even if you force the painting in, the menu is easy to understand. As a whole, it was well done and left a good impression.
