Haruka Kamiyama, a popular golf Instagrammer with 45,000 followers, is a talented golf girl with a handicap of 3.1 and a single-handicap skill. She introduces one of her improvement habits every week that has reached 5th grade single in 4 years of golf history.
Mr. Kamiyama says that “resetting your mind once” is part of practice
As I practice, I feel that 'quality practice' rather than 'amount of practice' leads to improvement. Of course, when I just started golf, I hit the ball anyway! This practice method is necessary, but it is also important to give meaning to practice once you can hit it properly to some extent. However, I think that it is very difficult to put it into words and to give meaning to practice. You should be able to "make practice meaningful" by understanding the causes of things that don't go well and repeating countermeasures. However, you can't do this just by staring at the ball, and if you practice too much when you're not feeling well, you might end up picking up bad habits... Therefore, I think that "resetting the head once" is also a part of practice. Many amateur golfers, myself included, tend to wonder, "What should I do?" I can't get out of it easily when I'm not feeling well, but it's no good if it stays like this! So, I decided to stop hitting the ball and practice in a different way. The practice is to "compare videos of myself when I'm in good shape and when I'm in bad shape" without hitting the ball at all! As you can see by comparing them again, you can see the difference depending on the condition. You will be able to see your swing from a third person's perspective, so you can concentrate on analyzing the cause of your slump! When you try to make corrections at the practice field, you only want nice shots and it doesn't go well. Of course, if you have a coach, it may be easier to fix, but I think there are more than a few amateur golfers who are self-taught. Therefore, if you make time to concentrate on analyzing the cause in order to “reset your mind,” you may be able to calmly analyze yourself! Practicing is not just about hitting the ball. If you think about golf, I think it will lead to "quality practice". I really do! *Mr. Ueyama was a volunteer for amateur golfers.
