1 comment 1"Hidden deafness" that has been increasing recently. Women in the hour-age generation, whose estrogen status tends to be unstable, may also experience symptoms of tinnitus and hypersensitivity that precede the awareness of deafness. We asked Dr. Masafumi Nakagawa, a doctor of medicine, about the problems with his ears that he feels in his daily life, such as hearing loss and ringing in his ears.
"Deafness is hidden behind more than 90% of tinnitus. In the past, many patients were elderly, but nowadays young people, especially women in their 20s and 40s, are conspicuous. (Professor Nakagawa) Tinnitus is closely related to the autonomic nervous system. When the autonomic nerves are disturbed due to stress, errors occur in the brain, and the inner ear is damaged, causing symptoms such as tinnitus and dizziness. Tinnitus is SOS from the body.
Along with its activity, the brain produces a waste product called amyloid β. Dementia progresses when a large amount of this waste product accumulates in the brain. On the other hand, this waste product is excreted outside the brain by using the brain. In other words, in order to keep the brain in the best condition, it is important to use it up. Being inaudible and deaf can also discourage learning. The generation of an unused brain causes lumps, and the loss of motivation causes lumps in other parts. Keeping hearing helps maintain a youthful brain.
The volume of the dryer is 100 decibels. Be careful as 15 minutes will exceed the permissible time of the day
The state in which daily lack of sleep accumulates like debt is called "sleep debt". Similarly, "noise debt" due to daily noise accumulates in the ears. Especially for women, it is the hair dryer that you should be careful about. "The volume of the hair dryer is 100 decibels. In 15 minutes, it exceeds the permissible time of the day and causes the same damage to the ears as going to a rock concert. For those who have long hair and take a long time to dry, curl after drying. Be especially careful if you use a hair dryer. "[Maybe hearing loss? Noise debt and ear illness] ◆ Noise-induced hearing loss It is also called smartphone deafness, earphone deafness, and headphone deafness. Prolonged exposure to noise damages the hair cells in the cochlea, making some of them irreparable and causing noise-induced hearing loss. The initial subjective symptom is tinnitus, which progresses gradually, so be careful. The cause is listening to music on a smartphone, earphones, or headphones on the train, or noise in the home such as a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner. ◆ Sudden deafness A disease in which one ear suddenly becomes deaf or hard to hear one day. It may be accompanied by severe dizziness and nausea. The cause and mechanism of the onset are unknown. While it is common in people in their 40s and 50s, it has been increasing recently regardless of age. The later the start of treatment, the more difficult it is to recover, and the chance of recovery is within 48 hours of the onset. Go to the hospital within a week at the latest. The basic treatment is rest and infusion. ◆ Meniere's disease Slightly more common among women in their 30s and 40s, vertigo, deafness in one ear, and tinnitus are the main symptoms. It may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, cold sweat, and palpitation. Paroxysmal dizziness lasts for about 30 minutes to 6 hours, so it is important to lie down quietly and rest. Since "endolymphatic hydrops", in which the endolymphatic space of the inner ear is swollen, occurs, it is thought that the cause is circulatory disorders and stress in the inner ear. Those without dizziness are called "cochlear Meniere's disease". ◆ Earwax Embolism A disease that tends to occur in people with moist earwax. Too much earwax or scratching with an earpick pushes the earwax into the ear canal, making it hard to hear. In addition, there are cases where earwax gets stuck in the back when hearing aids and inner earphones are taken in and out. Basically, earwax does not need to be cleaned. For dry earwax, use baby oil, and for wet type, moisten a cotton swab with hydrogen peroxide and wipe it lightly. I heard about Masafumi Nakagawa, who graduated from Juntendo University in 1986. He is a doctor of medicine. Certified specialist of the Japanese Society of Otolaryngology. Professor, Faculty of Medicine, International University of Health and Welfare. Specializes in tinnitus, deafness, and hearing aids. His books include "Ear training that makes" hard to hear "heal" (Daiwa Shobo), "Training to improve hearing" (PHP Institute), etc. Illustration / Good interview / Original / Keiko Ueda
