We have already covered the voice input (speech recognition) function of Windows, but since the function was renewed last year and the usability has been further improved, let's introduce it again. In addition, this time we will introduce the usability in the Windows 11 environment, but if Windows 10 is updated to the new version, it should be possible to use it as well.
Sentence / Satoru Toda
Windows voice input is very accurate, but if satisfactory results are not obtained, there are two possible causes. One is bad speaking. Try to speak with a smooth tongue like an announcer.
The other is the performance of the microphone and the surrounding sounds. Older models of laptops often have poor microphone performance. Also, even if the surrounding sounds are loud, it is not preferable as an environment. In such cases, I would like to use a headset.
It is recommended to use Windows voice input with shortcut keys. You can use voice input at any time by pressing the "Windows + H" key. It's very convenient, so please keep it in mind.
When you press the shortcut key, a small popup will appear on the screen. This is the voice input panel.
First, let's keep the settings in mind. Broadly speaking, there are two points for setting, and you can set "Voice input activation tool" and "Automatic input of punctuation marks".
The voice input activation tool uses a small popup to quickly input voice. However, you can quickly start it with the "Windows + H" key, so you won't feel stressed even if you don't use this function. If you want to input most of the text input by voice, it seems good to turn it on.
"Auto-enter punctuation" is a function that automatically enters "," and ".". It's very convenient when entering text, so I definitely want to use it. However, in many cases, the search box results in "the population of Tokyo." I would like to use this depending on the application.
"Windows + H" opens the voice input panel
There are two main settings
Voice input activation tool is easy to use with a small panel
Note that punctuation can get in the way
The voice input tool is very accurate, so it can also be used for text input. However, if you do not have the habit of "speaking sentences" instead of spoken words, you will not be able to input as you wish. In short, it takes some getting used to. Don't panic when you make a mistake, don't say "wrong", think about how easy it is to correct. If you practice for a while, you should be able to do it well, but if you don't have many opportunities to create documents in the first place, training is troublesome.
The best recommendation is to take notes on what you think, what you think, what you talk about at the meeting, etc. All you have to do is record your thoughts out loud. With this, there is no problem with a few mistakes, and the spoken word can be converted into text.
By converting your thoughts into text, you should be able to reconfirm the contents and improve the accuracy.
Let's talk and record what we thought
