Tweet from twitter@iPhoneMania_jp February 13, 2022 23:47 Until reading completed About 6 minutes 23 seconds Zepp Health's complete wireless earphone with health monitoring function "Amazfit PowerBuds Pro ” will be reviewed for about two weeks, including a comparison with AirPods Pro. The article uses products that you have provided for review.

Noy-cancelling wireless earphones with healthcare functions

"Amazfit PowerBuds Pro" will be released in September 2021 from the Amazfit brand, which has the third largest share of smartwatch shipments worldwide after Apple and Samsung. It is a completely wireless earphone with an active noise canceling function that has been released. Amazfit has also launched a smartwatch. It features "heart rate monitoring", "running automatic detection", and "cervical spine reminder" as health monitoring functions. “Amazfit PowerBuds Pro” is sold at Amazon.co.jp and others for 23,800 yen (tax included).

4 sizes of earplugs

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro comes with 4 sizes of translucent earplugs, USB-A – USB-C cable for charging, Japanese in the charging case and earphone body. A manual is included. There are 4 sizes of earplugs, S, M, L, and LL, and the M size is attached at first. For the author who uses the L size ear tips for AirPods Pro, the LL size was a perfect fit for both the left and right. The surface of the charging case has a smooth finish like frosted glass. The lamp on the front glows during charging, pairing, etc. Inside the charging case, the earbuds are stored facing outward, so you have to re-hold them when putting them in your ears. While the earphones are securely housed in the charging case and have a sense of stability, it was a little difficult to take them out until I got used to them. The earphone body is light gray on the inner side when worn, and white on the outer side. Inside the right ear, you can see the heart rate sensor through the earplug. The weight of the earphone body was about 13 grams in total for the left and right.

Feeling of wearing and operability

I think there are individual differences in the feeling of wearing it on the ear, but in my case, I used it for about two weeks, running and shaking my head while wearing it. I was able to wear them stably without falling out of my ears or shifting their position. Also, even after listening to music continuously for about 2 hours, there was no pain or fatigue in my ears. Various settings such as noise canceling, sound quality, and health care functions can be operated from the dedicated application "Zepp". The remaining battery level of the earphones is displayed in the "Zepp" app, and it is also displayed as an icon next to the remaining battery level of the iPhone, so it is possible to roughly grasp it. The Bluetooth connection is solid, and I never lost track of the audio when I was away from my iPhone at home or when I was walking outside with it in my bag. In addition to being able to play/pause, move to the next song, and call Siri by pinching the earphone body, you can switch the noise canceling mode by pressing and holding, and tap the earphone during exercise to hear your heart rate etc. can hear Assignment of operation can also be set individually for left and right with the "Zepp" application. In addition, in order to connect and use multiple devices such as iPhone and Mac, it is necessary to cancel the Bluetooth connection and reconnect, so it takes a little time and effort if you want to use it on multiple devices. I don't think it will be a problem for those who mainly use earphones with smartphones.

Music playback/call function

My first impression of playing music with the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro was "The bass sounds powerful". Regardless of the genre, the bass is thick, so you can play powerful music, especially if you turn on the noise canceling, you can immerse yourself in the music. On the other hand, when listening to content such as podcasts, I sometimes felt that a male voice would sound too heavy. Selecting "Vocal" out of the 10 types of presets available in the equalizer function of the "Zepp" app made it easier to hear people's voices. Spatial audio such as Apple Music is available by setting "Music" > "Dolby Atmos" to "Always On" in the iPhone's "Settings" app. In addition, I tried a voice call with a mobile phone line, LINE phone, FaceTime, but I was able to hear the other party's voice clearly, and the other party could hear this voice well.

Adaptive mode is universal for noise canceling

There are 4 modes for active noise canceling: "Adaptive", "Travel", "Exercise" and "Indoor". When listening to a comparison, "Travel" strongly eliminates the frequencies of vehicle noise, "Exercise" moderately acts to make it easier to hear the surrounding sounds, and "Indoors" suppresses the frequencies of air conditioners and people's voices. There was an impression that it was aimed and erased. In my case, I use the "adaptive" mode almost all the time because the natural noise canceling works in the "adaptive" mode. If you press and hold the earphones to enter the external sound capture mode, you can actively capture external sounds, so you can talk even with the earphones in your ears.

Notification when you keep the same posture

If the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro detects that you have been in the same posture for more than 40 minutes, it will automatically play music and encourage you to relax. This music can be stopped by tapping the earphone lightly. Put on the earphones, sit and face forward, wait a few seconds, and your posture will be determined. The judgment results change from time to time, but it seems that the worst posture has a weight equivalent to supporting a 7-year-old child with the neck. If you check it from time to time, you will find that you are putting more strain on your neck than you are aware of, and it will make you conscious of improving your posture.

Automatically detects running and measures heart rate. Expecting improvement in reading function

In order to test the health monitoring function, which is the main feature of Amazfit PowerBuds Pro, I tried a light run wearing Amazfit PowerBuds Pro. If you turn on "running detection", it will automatically recognize that you are running and start recording your time and heart rate in less than a minute after you start running. When the set heart rate is exceeded, it will alert you with a heartbeat sound. Also, if you enable the "motion beat mode" that emphasizes the bass of music while running, the bass is emphasized, and you can feel the beat of the song and enjoy running. After running, it displays data such as a map of the route you ran, mileage and heart rate fluctuation. There is also a function that plays periodic sounds like a metronome to assist you in maintaining a stable running pace. In my case, I usually don't do any type of exercise, but this motivated me to continue light jogging. A little disappointing is that the running distance and heart rate are announced by voice, but it is a pity that it was difficult to hear because the English was read aloud in Japanese mode. I would like to expect that future updates will support natural Japanese voices.

Comparison with AirPods Pro

I compared the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro with the AirPods Pro that I use on a daily basis. The battery duration and other information are all information posted on the official website, and are the maximum time when noise canceling is enabled. In my impression, there was no big difference in fit when wearing. When comparing the sound quality with the equalizer off, the difference between the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro, which has a powerful bass sound, and the natural AirPods Pro, was clear. Also, I felt that the time from connecting to the paired iPhone to starting playback was faster with the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro. I compared noise canceling indoors, in a train station, in a subway car, on a busy road, etc., but I didn't feel a big difference between Amazfit PowerBuds Pro and AirPods Pro.

Summary: Wireless earphones with stable basic functions and health care functions

The Amazfit PowerBuds Pro are completely wireless with solid basic performance such as bass-rich music playback, calls, and natural noise cancellation, as well as health care functions such as running detection, heart rate measurement, and cervical spine reminder. It looks like earphones. In particular, functions such as running detection and bass enhancement while running are not only for those who enjoy running on a regular basis, but in my case, I want to incorporate running into my life.
