Twenty years have passed since the establishment of the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (Tagenken). Established in April 2001 as a unique research institute that conducts multidimensional research not only on substances and materials, but also on the processes and evaluation technologies that produce them, without being bound by conventional distinctions and frameworks. Did. Its foundation is the predecessor of Tagenken, which has been passed down since its founding in 1941. These are brilliant research results, and they have been handed down to the Multigen Lab without omission. Original and novel, hybrid coverage of the "process axis" from resources to cutting-edge materials, the "material axis" including inorganic, organic, and bio-materials, and the "evaluation measurement axis" from nano to macro. In addition to conducting extensive research, many joint research projects with the private sector are also underway.
The second of the pioneering network-based joint usage/research base project (Hokkaido University Research Institute for Electronic Research, Multigen Research Institute, Tokyo Institute of Technology's Chemistry Research Institute, Osaka University Institute of Industrial Science, and Kyushu University Institute for Advanced Study) that started in 2010. In the period activities (from 2016), the Multi-Gen Research Institute served as the base headquarters, and received the highest S rating for its activities. On the other hand, since the 2016 academic year, we have been working together with the university, Miyagi Prefecture, and the Tohoku Economic Federation as a core department for promoting the next-generation synchrotron radiation facility currently under construction on the new Aobayama campus. In October 2019, the “International Synchrotron Radiation Innovation and Smart Research Center” was established within the university for the utilization of synchrotron radiation, and several research groups have been transferred from the Multidisciplinary Research Institute to support its activities.
Now, 10 years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011. The Multigen Research Institute will continue to actively contribute to the reconstruction of Tohoku through materials research and to produce excellent researchers who will shoulder the future of Japan. We sincerely pray for the continued good health and prosperity of all of you, and ask for your continued support in the future.
